“So, tell me about yourself!”
– every interview, ever
I HATE this question. Where to begin?! For the longest time, I’ve approached this question by offering up my life story in chronological order, and speaking in terms of school and work. But there’s so much more to life than that! I love the trend of noting your roles in your social bios (as I’ve also done on the home page on my site here). So I would like to add a bit of detail to each of those roles to give you a fuller picture.
Fundraiser
I’ve been working in fundraising since 2014, starting at the London Abused Women’s Centre in Ontario. I’ve held various roles over the years and the work I feel most passionate about is women’s and gender diverse folks’ issues. Within fundraising, what I’ve specifically enjoyed the most is organizing special events. But I have also been responsible for donor database management, direct mail, donor stewardship, grant writing, corporate sponsorship, supporting major gifts, amongst other areas. It’s also been important to me wherever I’ve worked to be a part of helping to plan social activities for staff and recognition of significant events/dates (in particular local Pride celebrations and festivities).
Volunteer
I initially became interested in fundraising when I started volunteering for LAWC in 2012. I volunteered for 2 years before beginning to work there. Fast forward to 2018 and I was missing volunteering. Through my work at VON, I became aware of Meals on Wheels (MOW) programs. I decided to start volunteering in Ottawa in 2018 until I moved in 2020. Got back into it again in Winnipeg in September 2021. Hope to be an MOW volunteer for as long as I’m able to.
Mom
Became a mom in December 2020. Yep, I’m a #pandemicmom!
Partner
I’ve had the most amazing partner in my life since 2006, married since 2017. He is the rock of our family and our caretaker.
Reproductive Justice Advocate
I want to raise awareness of the gaps in abortion access and reproductive care seen in many parts of Canada (especially in more rural communities). I also want to raise awareness and funds for many amazing non-profits fighting for women and gender diverse folks’ right to this healthcare. I’m a proud member of Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada (ARCC).
